AROUND THE HOUSE

La Maison Coignet is located in Rose Hill, one of the main cultural centers of the island. Its important service by public transport (New metro right next to the house) and its central position make it interesting for shopping for traditional products and cultural visits... It is located only about ten kilometers from the capital Port Louis. You can discover the cultural heritage of the island (Theatre, the French Institute, cultural centers, cinemas, racetrack, temples...) but also its natural heritage (Gardens, parks, nature reserves, waterfalls, mountains, beaches ( Flic en Flac about twenty minutes by car from the house)

The proximity of Maison Coignet to the Business Center makes it an ideal oasis for people passing through the island on business trips...

The largest shopping complex on the island (“Bagatelle”) is also located in Rose Hill / Beau Bassin and you can find all types of shops there ranging from decoration, fashion, souvenirs of the island and food as well as a maximum of choice of restaurants...

Ideal for sports enthusiasts, the Island offers a multitude of activities: no less than 10 sublime golf courses, hiking or mountain biking in the mountains or through villages and natural parks, numerous diving clubs, Surfing, Kite Surfing or paddleboarding. A tennis club is also located not far from the house.

We present below a non-exhaustive list and without order of preference of sites to see and things to do around the house and on the island!

ROSE-HILL MARKET

Built in 1954, the Rose-Hill covered market is one of the largest on the island. Smaller than that of Port-Louis, it is also less touristy. These beautiful colorful stalls offer all the Mauritian flavors and scents: spices, fruits, vegetables, meat or fish.

It is also popular for its cheap shopping.

PLAZA THEATRE

On the Royal Road, you cannot miss one of the most beautiful monuments of the Island, the Le Plaza theater built in 1933 and which today also houses  the town hall. A little further down the same street is the Church of Notre Dame de Lourdes  (1890) nicknamed the Mauritian Montmartre. Made of granite stone and devoid of a bell tower, it houses a semblance of a reconstruction of the grotto of Lourdes.

THE BEACH

Located a twenty minutes from Maison Coignet, Flic en Flac is a charming village on the edge of the lagoon. Its beach, wilder than those of the big hotels, and with an authentic Mauritian atmosphere, is  sheltered from the wind all l'année. In the morning, it is an ideal place to observe many cetaceans.

MAURITIAN CUISINE

NATURAL HERITAGE

Nature is omnipresent in Mauritius and all around Rose-Hill.  Its mountains and volcanoes, its lagoons, its natural parks and its geological wonders, everything in Mauritius delights the traveler in search of wide open spaces .

HIKES

IN THE MOUNTAINS

Le Pouce is the third highest mountain in Mauritius. From the top of its 812 meter summit, Le Pouce offers a magnificent 360° panorama. On its paths, hikers can discover lush exotic flora, including some rare endemic species.  It takes its name from its shape similar to that of a thumbs-up with the point closed. 1/2 day hikes are organized.

CYBERCITY & UNIVERSITY

Ebene Cybercity (Ebene) is one of the most successful business parks in Mauritius. Originally designed to attract companies operating in the information technology sector, it now also houses the Financial Services Commission, several banks, offshore companies, accounting and consultancy firms. You can get there in a few minutes from the Coignet house by express metro.

Thanks to this new aerial metro line, thepublic university Mauritian (UoM) located at Reduced  is also a few stations away from the house.
